THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM – SIN – PART ONE

THE ROOTH OF THE PROBLEM – SIN – PART ONE

Beloved friends, I welcome you to today’s broadcast. I am still your brother and friend, Pastor Amara Uwaeziozi. I want to bring it to you a message I penned down in the late 70’s, in our maiden magazine The Masters Riches. It is in the form of a bible study, but as you listen, The LORD will bless you.

It is titled, The Root of The Problem – Sin.

IT IS TITLED, THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM – SIN

We shall take part one today, and part 2 next time.

Let us pray.

PRAYER

Heavenly FATHER, grant my hearers understanding. And through YOUR HOLY SPIRIT, anoint me as YOUR voice to elucidate YOUR Word to YOUR people, and enable them to take appropriate decision…in Jesus Mighty Name I pray. Amen.

The root of the problem: sin. Your sinfulness is declared by the scriptures. Man’s sinfulness is declared by the Bible, and affirms your utter sinfulness. The Bible declares and affirms your utter sinfulness along with the rest of mankind. Sin is either partial or complete violation of GOD’s law. Sin is, living your life independent of GOD: having self-sufficiency and selfishness.

Sin includes, neglecting the good you should do and doing the evil you ought not to do. You find that all over the scriptures, in 1st John 3:4, Galatians 3:10 and James 2:10, Revelations 3:15 and 17. You also find it in James 4:17.

But I want to read from The Book of Luke 12:47 and 48.

Luke 12:47-48

47 And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

Even if you do not know, and you commit sin, the Bible says, the one that knows and the one who doesn’t know will receive punishment. Will receive punishment!

There is the threefold manifestation of sin in a person’s life.

  1. The person manifest sin by nature: because you derive your sinfulness from an inherited sinful nature through your original sinful parents Adam and Eve. The whole of the scriptures is filled with this, that, we inherited a sinful nature from our first parents Adam and Eve who were first created by GOD, and they fell into sin.

  1. Secondly, sinfulness is manifested by attitude. Since your attitude springs from the kind of person you are, it follows that your attitude is as sinful as your nature. You may, therefore, be praiseworthy, but your thoughts and motives are devilish.

At the back of a smiling face, a murderous thought may be lurking. Behind a generous hand, a despiteful heart takes cover. Behind a holy look, a lustful heart is ablaze. Behind a sacrificial voice, a covetous heart stands ready to grab and cheat. And behind the preacher of honesty, lust and insatiable thirst for bribery and easy money – even corruption.

Who can say, my thoughts are clean? Thus you are a sinner by attitude; for as a man thinks, so is he – the Bible declares.

  1. One is also a sinner by act. By act! By actions. One is not only seen a sinner by nature and by attitude but a sinner by acts: your sins of commission – including lying, stealing, cheating, dishonesty, slander, bribery, pride, and so many others which we cannot enumerate here, are simply the children of your sinful nature and attitude.

You have always been pregnant with these sins; and they merely mature into acts as they fulfill their terms. Your period of pregnancy for their births may be long and varied, but the truth remains that you are a sinner. If you cannot withhold guilt and absorb yourself from the sins of nature or sins of attitudes and sins of acts, then, you confirm the universal verdict of the Bible that you are living below the standards of GOD’s righteousness and holiness. You are a sinner, and the consequences of your sins cry for vengeance. They cry for vengeance; because the Bible says, the soul that sinneth shall die. That’s what the bible says. And we will not begin to enumerate the Bible passages that say that sin has a consequence.

Final consequence of sin is, separation from GOD. Not only physical death but also complete spiritual death which means separation from GOD: and eternal damnation.

You may realize that sin has consequences:

A personal consequence. Personal. Personal. Sin is a personal enemy, and presents its consequence personally. The first and worst victim of every sin is the sinner. It first sting your conscience and later kills him – maims and kills him. Sin remains your number one enemy. Hospital beds are crammed with people who sinned against their conscience, people who despite their conscience, blowing the whistle or raising the banner and say, this is not right, they insist and go ahead to sin, this inflicting upon themselves psychological diseases and ulcer and all kinds of diseases that we see today. The Bible says, daily, hell enlarges its mouth to perpetually detach these people from their greed. Young girls living immorally receive the wages of unwanted children and ruined career. The clever girls who specialize in nipping the lives of unborn babies in the womb occasionally either pay with their lives in the process of abortion or live to face lifelong marital problems of barrenness or complicated pregnancy. The expert cheaters in higher institutions leave school without any confidence in themselves and their abilities. They continue to live on cheat and fraud until nemesis catches up with them.

Yes: it still remains an inexorable law of GOD that every sin you commit pierces through your own soul. Can you carry coal of fire on your bosom and not be burnt? We find that in Proverbs. You cannot carry fire: coals of fire – on your bosom and not be burnt. So is in sin.

Sin is also a social enemy. If your sin only leaves you with twisted conscience and ailing body and unexpected death I would have considered it a private matter and leave you to harvest what you sowed.  But no: the evil consequences of your sin cross land and sea to deal with other people: the taxi driver who crashed his car under the influence of alcohol does not die alone; The corrupt government officer that destroys the economy of our nation by unscrupulous attitude and employment of least-qualified people; the covetous contractor that will receive money but will not do the job robs the nation by claiming money without completing jobs; the armed robber, murderer who murders people to confiscate their property and kills and render innocent children orphans and kills citizens that did nothing; the lazy workers in the office who by their corrupt action render the nation’s economy useless and cause trouble for every person; the corrupt medical doctor who assassinates in cold blood innocent citizens by avoiding his duty until he gets some money: pay him some money behind the scene.

Thus, your sin spreads its dreadful dragnet of social consequences to others.

So, that’s what we are noticing, and of course, what we are reaping in our nation today.

There is also the spiritual dimension of sin which makes sin a spiritual enemy. It does not just end as a social epidemic; it extends to the spiritual plane. Every sin separates you from GOD. It cuts you off from your God and grabs you to the devil and hell. Sin murders you spiritually. Horrible! Sin is a spiritual murder. It murders you. The bible says in Romans 6:23, The wages of sin is death. That’s what the Bible says.

And I want to read from Revelation 21:7-8

Revelation 21:7-8

He who overcomes  shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Friends, sin is an enemy: it’s a personal enemy, it’s a social enemy, it’s a spiritual enemy.

On our next broadcast, we will concentrate on the remedy for sin. Meanwhile if you are under any conviction of your sinful life, you cannot wait till next week, let JESUS come into your life now, and as we pray.

Let us pray.

PRAYER

Heavenly FATHER, as many as are coming under the conviction of their sinful life, LORD, we ask that YOU, by the mercies of GOD, will reach out to such people, and come into their lives, to rescue them from the penalty and consequence of sin…in the Mighty Name of JESUS CHRIST. Amen!
